  Wohoo!  Figured it out.

  The DSD appears before the alpha loads firmware.  I blew the oscillator
by installing it the wrong way, I "borrowed" one and it works like a charm
SRM'd myself and will be on my way.  I hope the folks listed in the back
of the DEC technical manual still exist to buy the oscillator from...
