	I don't think that this is really an issue of inconsistency.  One 
thing that I believe they are working on for the future is to remove 
all full-blown MTAs (such as sendmail, postfix, qmail, etc...) from 
the base system, and to instead ship a program that would be just 
sufficient to handle the "null client" sort of configuration.  Thus, 
for anyone who wants to run a real MTA, they go to the ports or pull 
down the source and build it themselves.

	So, what you see for the mail server for freebsd.org could be 
considered a sample of where FreeBSD is going in the future, it's 
just that they've chosen to use postfix as their "real" MTA.


	That said, there are a lot of improvements coming in sendmail, 
and there might be a chance in the not-to-distant future when a lot 
of people might start switching back to it.
