FWIW, 2.2-STABLE is still installed on an old notebook of mine, which has a 486SX-25 processor, 3.5 MB RAM and 120 MB harddisk (that's MB, not GB). It even stops paging a few seconds after the login prompt appears, and it's perfectly usable for typing text on a trip or as an emergency serial console.
