> Does anyone what any expieriences (good or bad) with the Pagesat system? > Does it work with FreeBSD? I used it a couple years ago, but then a little tree became a big tree faster than expected in just the wrong place. Since I got a T1 about then, I switched to a net feed. The software comes in source, and is pretty basic. Basically, articles stream in ascii, with standard "#!rnews bytecount" lines in between them. Every now and then, a batch of email appears in between the news articles (in clear text --- *don't* get your email service from them!). The software I had didn't parse email and it all showed up in the log as bad articles. I had to hack it to recognize the email separator and skip it. I'm considering going back: they're changing systems and satellites, and the new satellite is in a location I can use. The bad news is that my hardware is now so much scrap, as I missed the upgrade window, so I'll have to shell out for all new, including the antennae. The news did seem to lag a little (a couple of days), but then so does my net feed, and pagesat says they've fixed that... -- Alan Batie ______ We're Starfleet officers: batie@agora.rdrop.com \ / Weird is part of the job. +1 503 452-0960 \ / --Captain Janeway DE 3C 29 17 C0 49 7A 27 \/ 40 A5 3C 37 4A DA 52 B9 It is my policy to avoid purchase of any products from companies which use unrequested email advertisements or telephone solicitation.
