Need help in reading old 5.25" floppies. It used to work fine until FreeBSD was installed. Now I get this error: fd1c: hard error reading fsbn 0 of 0-3 (ST0 41<abnrml> ST1 1<no-am> ST2 0 cyl 0 hd 0 sec 1) An older version of the same error message only differs in that fsbn 0-3 used to be fsbn 0-19. Have tried putting another 5.25" drive instead. No difference. What is running now is, with a fresh kernel: Free BSD 2.2.5 RELEASE (GENERIC+COM5+VT5-8) #0: Sun Aug 30 11:23:49 PDT 1998 Installation has been done by a very experienced person, and yet the 5.25" drive cannot be read. It was read/write okay with the previous OS, BSD 2.1. What could be wrong now? A workaround solution would be some program on DOS that could read the UNIX-format disk data (it's simple ASCII text) so that I could then put it on a 3.5" floppy. I do not expect to use the 5.25" drive any more, I just have some vital old system records on the larger floppies. If anyone could help with my essential problem -- or with the workaround solution, I'd much appreciate it.
