It is true that installing audio/freedesktop-sound-theme populated the "sound effects" tab = with a default theme, however there is still an issue. Although I can successfu= lly doubleclick on a sound and hear it play through the speakers, the sound will not play as a default event sound through the speakers. Steps to repeat: open sound preferences click sound effects tab choose default sound theme check enable button sounds open a terminal window press backspace key many times until line is blank and continue to press key You should be able to hear sound coming from the speakers when continuing to press backspace key.
