My .bash_profile contains
# First prompt is definitely PS1 (PSnumeral-one)
PS1="\u@\h \w "
case 'id -u' in
0) PS1="$(PS1)# ";;
*) PS1="$(PS1)S ";;
esac
My .bashrc contains:
# same prompt lines from .bash_profile
# note that it is PSnumeral-one not PSlowercaseL
PS1="\u@\h \w "
case 'id -u' in
0) PS1="$(PS1)# ";;
*) PS1="$(PS1)S ";;
esac
Yet on login I get this error message:
bash: PS1: command not found
and the prompt is S
Why? and how can I fix this?
