I have to say that the original diff approved by my mentors didn't include the whitespace fix (I have noticed it right before committing it) and _I_ alone decided to commit it with the "full stop" fix. Anyway, I still think that this is not a real problem and I use to commit whitespace fixes separately to content changes.
