That is the optical drive. There's a problem we've had historically with some Apple ATA controllers where ATAPI DMA does not work reliably. Could you try entering the following at the loader prompt? set hw.ata.atapi_dma=0 If that makes it boot, I'll add your controller to the black list. -Nathan
