Hi! I have a little Problem with the sound server (artsd I think) on my machine. It's a 900 MHz Celeron with 512 MB RAM and a Creative SB 128 PCI. Recompiling the kernel with the "device pcm" option worked fine, and after "/sh/MAKEDCEV snd0" everything seems to work. But according to "top" this "artsd" consumes about 75% CPU power (it really slows things down...) and if some other processes are running, the sound server frequently crashes with a message "CPU Overload". BTW, I'm using KDE2.2 as WM. What am I doing wrong? Are there other (better) sound servers (just like OSS on Linux)?
