Hello,

We were using something similar. We had the mail stored on a
file-per-message basis on directories like /home/??/user/Maildir, where ??
was a two character word formed with a hash function applied on the login.

For this we used sendmail-8.9.1 and delivered the mail locally with
procmail compiled with the maildir patches.

The home directories for the users were something like /home/??/user.

Hope this helps.
