It probably means what Justin pointed out -- you've got a cable with nothing on it plugged in. Try unplugging the cable and see if things work fine. Then try plugging in a cable with drives attached. If you get an error with just the card plugged in (no cable connected) or with the cable and a drive connected, then you might have a problem.
