So, run it in an xterm, and make sure you've got the ``compose key''
functionality available.  I usually map it to ScrLk, with:

Section "Keyboard"
...
    SCROLLLOCK compose


in XF86Config.  Then, ScrLk-"-o does about the same in an xterm.

For a plain ``meta key'' (which adds bit 7), it's Meta-v.
