I'd suggest putting root somewhere within the first 1024
cylinders of the disk for performance reasons, even though disk
tech has apparently advanced far enough to render obsolete the
1024 cylinder barrier. I think that you could seriously hamper
performance by sticking root at the edge of the disk instead of
close to the spindle.
