Why aren't you using the mail/dovecot2 port? Especially if this is a new install. IIRC. mail/dovecot was kept around because of some incompatible changes when mail/dovecot2 was released. That was many years ago now, and I'm not sure if keeping the old dovecot port really is still necessary. Everyone should have had ample time to migrate to dovecot2.
