Forgive my cluelessness, but I don't quite follow your suggestion. I don't think you mean upgrade to 3.x (not an option for me at the moment). So, do you mean get ports.tgz from ftp://ftp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/2.2.8-RELEASE/ports/, and redo the entire thing? I'll do this if it's the only way, but seems a bit sledghammerish, no?
