Check chapter 5.7.3.1 of the FreeBSD Handbook. kdm is relatively easy to setup. GDM's setup is more work or at least the method I found on the net was. Maybe there's an easier way. I actually find GDM to be more aesthetically appealing than kdm, even though I don't really like Gnome's aesthetics.
