As suggested by marius@, I have upgrade the affected box to FreeBSD 10.3-BETA2 #0 r295834M with the proposed patch. So far so good, and I have reactivated the periodic scripts. But meanwhile I had been playing with ZFS / ARC tuning, and this might have some impacts.
