Are you sure you've deleted it? When I was moving /var to /usr/var I
somehow managed to move all the files from /var to /usr/var and then
mounted the empty /var partition on top of /usr/var :/
I *think* there is a way using a target to make(1), but I'm not sure.
You could try something like:
# cd /path/to/port
# make FORCE_PKG_REGISTER=yes NO_INSTALL=yes install
The NO_INSTALL variable is a dummy target so I would expect the above
to do a build and dummy install but create the /var/db/pkg entries.
Disclaimer: I haven't tried this so it may not work.
