Fortunately Midnight Commander copies the files just fine, so I used it instead of cp to bring over my 160 GB of data from the ext4 partition. Thanks for the patches. I don't think I'll be able to apply them right away, but maybe I'll get FreeBSD running in a VM and do it that way as my real metal is used for my busy day-to-day business.
