I want to install FreeBSD over ethernet. Support for 3Com's 3c589 (pcmcia) is not supported in the install kernel. I have not been able to locate a precompiled kernel that supports this (preferred). I have also had little success trying to build a FreeBSD kernel on my NetBSD box (expected). I expect that I can just take a new kernel, gzip it, and replace "kernel.gz" on the boot floppy with the said new kernel. Is this possible? Has anyone else solved this problem?
