That was only a fix for certain DWARF attributes emitted by clang and/or
newer gcc's, which would cause ctfmerge to error out.

If ctfmerge is hanging, that is almost certainly another problem.  That
is, if it is really hanging, isn't it just very slow, maybe?  What
happens if the original poster lets it run for e.g. an hour?
