Just a historical correction... The above comment is incorrect (then and now). 
The patch submitted and committed to the ports tree was committed upstream, and
that upstream commit was the source of the patch submitted here (in comment 6).

Sorry for the late comment. I meant to verify the claims in comment 8 at the
time as I thought it was an upstream commit, but it fell off the work queue
back then.
