You don't need this. Samba supports encrypted passwords.
This is from my /usr/local/etc/smb.conf:
[global]
encrypt passwords = Yes
....
But I don't have NT on my network, so, maybe, Samba does not support
NT encrypted passwords.
But you need post your smb.conf
