When I run pmcstat (top mode) in VM it behaves same as Adrian observed. However when I tried pmcstat in real hardware, sampling seems working providing events. I tried both commands: pmcstat -P CPU_CLK_UNHALTED_CORE -T -w 1 -t 1030 pmcstat -P INSTR_RETIRED_ANY -T -w 1 -t 1030 where 1030 is nginx worker process pid.
