An easier (probably) way, if you have the CD is to use the upgrade
option from sysinstall. First backup your /etc directory somewhere safe,
and create a new boot floppy (for 2.2.2). Boot that floppy and choose
the upgrade option. Go on to mount your filesystems (making sure their
newfs flag stays N), choose the distributions you need, etc... Finally,
you'll be put into the holographic shell to fix the files in /etc. If
memory serves me, between 2.2.1 and 2.2.2 the file /etc/rc.conf was
introduced, so this maybe a bit more involved than with other upgrades.
However, with some common sense and your old files you should be able to
do it easily enough.
