Well, I finally broke down and tried to figure out where the BIOS
puts the chip on boot. It puts the WSS codec at adress 0x530, which
is quite normal, but the snd code looks for it at ioaddr+4 so 
the following wierd pcm0 entry makes it work:

device          pcm0    at isa? port 0x52c tty irq 5 drq 1 flags 0x13

That does the trick, and I can now enjoy 16 bit sound etc on my latitude :)

Btw, it also puts the CS4237 ctrl regs at 0x210, if anybody feels like
playing  with the 3D SRS stuff :)
