Perhaps gcc with certain options warns about it rtto help detect compatibility problems. I can't find any options that make it complain now. ISTR it complaining about even 0xFFFFFFFF because it is so large that it is unsigned on 32-bit systems. For C90 on 32-bit systems, 0x7FFFFFFFFF is constraint error. 0x7FFFFFFFFFLL is a syntax error for C90 on all systems. Bruce
