There are nothing (exactly no lines) in the dmesg other than the ones I have referred to here. I have run a tail -f /var/log/messages in another window to be sure. :) However, I have tried 'mplayer -cache 8192 /dev/cxm0' and that cures the playback problem, AFAICT. Doing that allowed me to better judge the video quality of the TV cannels - it seems that picture / video quality isn't worse than on my other equipment (this is analog cable after all).
