Just in case anyone was curious, using the exact same hardware except changing the CPUs, a Celeron D vs older Celeron I see the following buildworld times. The newer CPUs have more onboard cache and are 533FSB. CFLAGS=-O -pipe COPTFLAGS=-O -pipe NO_MODULES=true # MODULES_WITH_WORLD=true # #time make buildworld > /var/log/build.out 1356.830u 353.483s 31:42.87 89.8% 1400+1701k 46404+3016io 2643pf+0w CPU: Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU 2.40GHz (2400.42-MHz 686-class CPU) Origin = "GenuineIntel" Id = 0xf33 Stepping = 3 Features=0xbfebfbff<FPU,VME,DE,PSE,TSC,MSR,PAE,MCE,CX8,APIC,SEP,MTRR,PGE,MCA,CMOV,PAT,PSE36,CLFLUSH,DTS,ACPI,MMX,FXSR,SSE,SSE2,SS, HTT,TM,PBE> 1638.173u 447.367s 37:43.01 92.1% 1430+1697k 46308+3018io 2653pf+0w CPU: Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU 2.40GHz (2400.41-MHz 686-class CPU) Origin = "GenuineIntel" Id = 0xf29 Stepping = 9 Features=0xbfebfbff<FPU,VME,DE,PSE,TSC,MSR,PAE,MCE,CX8,APIC,SEP,MTRR,PGE,MCA,CMOV,PAT,PSE36,CLFLUSH,DTS,ACPI,MMX,FXSR,SSE,SSE2,SS, HTT,TM,PBE> Both buildworlds were immediately started from the console after a reboot so no source files were in the cache. ---Mike -------------------------------------------------------------------- Mike Tancsa, tel +1 519 651 3400 Sentex Communications, mike@sentex.net Providing Internet since 1994 www.sentex.net Cambridge, Ontario Canada www.sentex.net/mike
