You need a line in .Xdefaults that looks like: *toolBar*fontList: -*-helvetica-medium-r-*-*-*-80-*-*-*-*-iso8859-* Grepping through the binary, I found a few things that go in preferences.js that look like they should disable some of that stuff, but I could never get them to work.
