Mutt.  It's probably the most customizable one and also the
fastest.

I used Pine and some mailers under (X)Emacs previously.  I liked
VM under XEmacs because of its easy customizeability.  But I have
large mail boxes and VM becomes a real sloth with them.

The single drawback of mutt, it runs an external editor for
composing mail.  But with vim or emacsclient/gnuclient as
editors, it's almost unnoticeable.
