In my concern this is hidding a bug under the carpet not fixing it, FYI the bug
has been fixed on amd64, still being working on for i386.

imho this shouldn't be committed unless we have an upstream approval that this
is actually the fix (which I'm not sure of) no offense to the submitter.

The fact that it now works with clang on amd64 proves (imho) that the current
code should be working, and that is fix isn't a real fix.
