Ok...posted to soon...figured it all out. For those interested...I went to the KDE control panel and there is an option in there to run aRTs sound server. I turned that off and all was well. --Brian -----Original Message----- From: owner-freebsd-questions@FreeBSD.ORG [mailto:owner-freebsd-questions@FreeBSD.ORG] On Behalf Of Brian McCann Sent: Wednesday, July 24, 2002 12:09 PM To: freebsd-questions@FreeBSD.ORG Subject: Sound problem I'm new to sound in FreeBSD...so forgive me if I stumble a bit. I follow the directions in the Handbook for installing the card in the kernel...and all went well. I made my dev entries...installed XMMS...but when I try playing something, I get that "/dev/dsp: Device Busy". The handbook says that the device can be help by esound or KDE sometimes. So I ran the command "fstat | grep dsp", and it returned "root artsd 214 7 / 642815 crw-rw-rw dsp0.0 w". What can I do to fix this problem.
