In /etc/pkg/FreeBSD.conf is the config for the pkg server:

url: "pkg+http://pkg.FreeBSD.org/${ABI}/latest"

we should switch to the more secure HTTPS protocol by default:

url: "pkg+https://pkg.FreeBSD.org/${ABI}/latest"
