The board I used for tests has BIOS option to switch I2C controllers between
ACPI and PCI mode. In PCI mode ig4 works as expected in ACPI mode attach fa=
ils
with the same error. I didn't have time to investigate it popery yet. As a
workaround you can check for something like this in your device's BIOS.=20

Could you also post the output of acpidump -dt here? It may be useful.
