I suspect your named doesn't listen on IPv6 correctly.  Can you see
IPv6 listen in the output of `netstat -a'?
My bind-9.1.1 version of nslookup seems to query via IPv6 on my
4.3-RELEASE box.  It was installed from ports/net/bind9.
