The patch for wall/ttymsg.c is REQUIRED for the syslogd patch - check out the Makefile for syslogd and comments in syslogd.c (which uses ttymsg.c to handle messages to ttys). I wish I could think of a way to avoid that change, but it's clearly the cleanest way to do it. I'm concerned about overloading any of the other iovec's because some folks "know" what they are without looking...
