OK, I'm about to chuck it all out the window! Here's what's happening. I can connect to the remote NT server using network dial up on the '95 PC. The login and password are set ok, and the Hayes modem connects fine, going through its pap thing, and logging on the the network fine. It assigns the PC, my end, 203.22.80.21. Fine. All works well, God is in his heaven, and I can send/get email and so forth. I unplug the PC, plug in the Unix box, and using the script which has been kindly supplied to me, do "ppp -auto ISP", and it dial, does a bit of handshaking - to the same machine as the pc dialled mind - and then goes into spazmoid mode, the TXD/RXD lights flickering as the modems straff rubbish back and forth for about 2 minutes. Then the link drops - naturally. This is the tail end of the ppp.log. It just sends this after getting *connect*, with the request numbers being all that changes. 06-10 17:10:18 [11499] LCP: SendConfigNak(Ack-Rcvd) 06-10 17:10:18 [11499] AUTHPROTO proto = c023 06-10 17:10:18 [11499] LCP: Received Configure Request (12) state = Ack-Rcvd (7) 06-10 17:10:19 [11499] ACCMAP 00000000 06-10 17:10:19 [11499] AUTHPROTO proto = c223 06-10 17:10:19 [11499] MAGICNUM 0000229a 06-10 17:10:19 [11499] PROTOCOMP 06-10 17:10:19 [11499] ACFCOMP 06-10 17:10:19 [11499] LCP: SendConfigNak(Ack-Rcvd) 06-10 17:10:19 [11499] AUTHPROTO proto = c023 ~ ~ So it's not the modem, not the line.
