yeah, Peter gave me that hint, got it running now,

.. AND I fixed the typo in my slave's named.conf's master's ip address 
which was blocking the slave from named doing AXFR's, while named-xfer's 
(without the typo) worked fine.

All is cool, 1 master and 3 slaves, all @ 8.2.2P5 running on FreeBSD and 
NT, have a learned a ton, thanks, Martin and Peter.
