how big is big ? is it 64K or it can be much larger ? In any case,
it should not be much of a problem given that several atapi drives can
transfer audio faster than 1x, so a small buffer should suffice.

(and in any case, i fail to see why one would want to grab live
digital audio data from a CD to pump it straight into the DAC of
the audio card, when there is a direct analog connection that would
consume zero cpu and zero bus bandwidth...)
