Ahh, I thought from the documentation that it HAD to be in /etc/hosts.conf
for NIS to work at all with the system, as thats is what enabled the NIS
functions.  If your using it without that, then my interpretation of the
man page is wrong, and I will give that a try.. :)

Thanks for the tip, as really all I want NIS for is a common password 
and group file, and to keep UID's straight on my NFS filesystems..
