I have noticed a similiar problem on my Acer Extensa notebook. It's
running 2.2.8-RELEASE+PAO, and has a sound blaster-compatible clone. For
some bizarre reason it occasionally detects the soundcard, but other times
it doesn't. I have a sneaking suspicion that it works if I boot into
FreeBSD after restarting from NT but not if I boot straight into FreeBSD.
