I tried using smartctl as suggested. I didn't see any errors when building it, but upon trying to run it, I get a seg fault: smartctl -a /dev/ad0 smartctl 5.43 2012-06-30 r3573 [FreeBSD 9.1-RC2 powerpc] (local build) Copyright (C) 2002-12 by Bruce Allen, http://smartmontools.sourceforge.net Segmentation fault (core dumped) It seems to me, since I've had so many errors of different types, it might be a good idea to wipe the drive and reinstall, since I can't even test the hardware at this point.
