Ok, I think we have the enemy in sight. Can you please say: set debug.acpi.timer_test="yes" at the loader prompt and boot? Ideally, you'll get a message "timer is not monotonic", followed by some numbers. If this is the case, then I need to get "smarter" with the ACPI timer probe.
