This is what I proposed 1 or 2 days ago. But did not get comment on.

I am writing a ALPHAHW.TXT that is aimed at providing the Alpha-specific
bits. If it matches that desire remains to be seen ;-) 

I think I should put it in the CVS repo on of these days. But I have to
figure out how to do that first. easy-import ??
