(My /usr/tmp is a symlink to /a/tmp outside the Linux tree * and a symlink to ../var/tmp inside the Linux tree, not sure why it * doesn't say "/var/tmp" in the latter case.) Oops, I'm an idiot, there wasn't a var/tmp inside /compat/linux and it was trying the real (outside /compat/linux) /usr/tmp. Once I created var/tmp, the message started saying "/compat/linux/usr/tmp/..." (although it still dies with the same error).
