I've had mixed luck with galeon and JPI 1.3.  Lately, the results have
been good depending on the applet I'm viewing.  I have been able to view
some quite complex RMI-based applets in Galeon without a problem. 
However, I think the JPI is still in its developmental stages.  You
might want to work with Greg Lewis, the JDK maintainer, to see if you
can troubleshoot your issues further.
