First of all, I'd like to say that I'm finding FreeBSD 4.0 quite nice
indeed, some very nice advancements over 3.x. Here are some things I've
noticed so far though;

* make world bombs if MAKE_KERBEROS4=NO, but I suppose I should be making
  that nonetheless, yes? =)

* ad driver giving me some problems, I think. I had originally two disks
  under 3.4 which ere wd0 and wd1, (wd0s1,wd1s1) The first disk was
  handle perfectly under ad0, the second however blows up hard, and I'm
  not sure why. Here's the dmesg relative and the error;

ad0: 8063MB <WDC AC38400L> [16383/16/63] at ata0-master using UDMA33
ad1: 1549MB <WDC AC21600H> [3148/16/63] at ata0-slave using WDMA2

ad1: HARD READ ERROR blk# 0ata0-slave: WARNING: WAIT_READY
active=ATA_ACTIVE_ATA
ad1: HARD READ ERROR blk# 0 status=59 error=04
ad1: DMA problem fallback to PIO mode
ad1: reading primary partition table: error reading fsbn 0

(that happens on fdisk, fsck, mount, sysinstall, just about anything that
 hits that drive. Perhaps it is because it is older?)

* xmms screwed up the entire audio until I removed my ~/.xmms and let it
  create a new one on it's own, no biggie and probably not freebsd related
  at all.

* asmon doesn't work on 4.0 =/

Beyond that though, it's quite nice. I re-wrote my kernel configuration
mostly for this event as recommended due to the changes, I found that the
GENERIC kernel file is much easier to follow and make good sense out of
now than the 3.x one was. LINT is also very well documented and quickly
set aside and questions I came across while making the kernel.

This is not meant to be a detailed bug report, just a synopsis of my
upgrade (read; format and start over) expierence. If anyone has any idea
about the hard disk problem above, please do contact me, I'll provide with
any information required, thanks =)

Keep up the good work,

Matt [PS: If this was not the right list, my apologies, the issue of which
          list to post to is getting quite confusing.]
