Delivered to freebsd-current@ but previously mis-addressed to
freebsd-pkgase@ (sorry)

An option:

Using pkgbasify to repair a broken installation of FreeBSD 14.3-RELEASE
<https://gist.github.com/grahamperrin/9570092c127bd43777961b6f016e75ba#file-freebsd-installer-pkgbasify-md>;

The method there may be adapted for 16.0-CURRENT.

If a non-bootable kernel is from base_latest, then I would hope to find
a usable base (with a bootable kernel) in base_weekly.
